Byrnecut has successfully integrated its Safety and Environmental Management Systems (SEMS) throughout the organisation by developing practical, thorough and user friendly systems, processes, procedures and associated documentation. The SEMS complies with the requirements specified within the Standard AS/NZS 4801 Occupational Health and Safety Management Systems. Our SEMS has also achieved or exceeded compliance requirements when audited against the following:
- AS/NZS ISO 14001:2004: Environmental management systems - Requirements with guidance for use
- AS/NZS 4804:2001 : Occupational health and safety management systems - General guidelines on principles, systems and supporting techniques
- AS/NZS ISO 9001:2000 : Quality management systems - Requirements
- NOSA 5 Star Safety Audit System; and
- Det Norske Veritas (DNV) Safety Audit System.

- Weekly Safety Meetings for all employees

- Maintenance Procedures System for all Critical Maintenance Competencies
- Workplace Inspections completed by all employees on a daily basis
- Pre-Start Inspections for equipment
- Planned Inspections completed by key Byrnecut and Client representatives on our sites
- Job Hazard Analysis processes to identify risks associated with new or not common work tasks
- Site Specific Procedures to identify safe, efficient and effective processes for conducting work tasks
- Appropriate supervision of employees in accordance with statutory requirements
- Planned Maintenance processes to ensure the safe, efficient and effective operation of equipment
- BSAFE Audit process to ensure operational risk identification and continuous improvement; and
- Independent External Audits to AS/NZS 4801 Occupational Health and Safety Management Systems to ensure the continuous improvement of our SEMS.
Byrnecut has successfully integrated Client driven behavioural based safety initiatives such as the 'Take Time Take Charge Program', the 'Five by Five Program' and the 'Positive Attitude Safety System'. From an internal organisational perspective our behavioural based safety initiatives focus on integrating participative management practices to our management teams. These programs promote actively caring behaviours and employee enablement principles to ultimately achieve an organisational culture that reduces reliances on external accountability systems and promotes self directed behaviours at all levels.
