Byrnecut Group

Safety Package & Policies

Byrnecut uses a computer based safety database (BSAFEWEB) as the core of its Safety Management System.  BSAFEWEB incorporates a formal risk assessment used to identify key areas for improvement and justify corrective actions.

The system is used to:

  • Record accident investigations
  • Produce occupational health and safety statistics
  • Record safety meeting minutes and track completion of action items
  • List and record planned inspections
  • Provide access to controlled documents, individual site procedures, general procedures and Training Resource Manuals
  • Provide access to personnel training records, certificates and appointments for all procedures and machinery operation tickets
  • Provide a link to ChemWatch for all material safety data sheets
  • Track, record and manage details of all workers compensation cases
  • Provides access to external details on significant incidents, Minesafe Articles and Safety Bulletins
  • Access Australian Standards

The Byrnecut Systematic Auditing for Excellence (BSAFE) system was developed in conjunction with Curtin University as an auditing tool for safety.

  • The BSAFE system was a finalist in the National Safety and Health Innovation Awards conducted by the Minerals Council of Australia
  • Three BSAFE audits are conducted at each site per year to track safety and quality performance at all sites
  • BSAFE audits generate action lists designed to ensure sites comply with OH&S Standards
  • Senior management review each audit and highlight areas of most concern

The introduction of BSAFEWEB and the BSAFE audit system has had a positive impact on Byrnecut, with regard to both the company's performance on safety and quality issues and more importantly, our employee's attitude toward occupational health and safety.
